AWA releases instructional installation videos

Installation continues to be the major problem for the performance of windows and glazed doors throughout Australia. Large amounts of time and money are spent investigating a ‘failed window system’, only to discover the real issue is installation.  In fact, around 80% of all window complaints are attributable to installation and care issues during the construction period.

The Australian Window Association’s (AWA) Marketing and Communications Manager Gary Smith comments, “Installation has been the Achilles’ Heel of our industry for many years. The AWA developed guides for installation and made them available to industry, however these have not fixed the installation problems so we have now created nine short instructional videos. This is phase one of our project, phase two will be the creation of an online training course and phase three will be the development of an accredited installation program.  We hope that this project’s three phases will have a positive impact on this industry problem”.

The videos were made possible by the generous donation of funds and materials from A&L Windows, Bradnams Windows, Rylock Windows, G. James, Tremco, Architectural Window Systems, Alspec, Master Builders Association and Home Hardware.

The AWA has created a series of instructional videos to give guidance to the industry on the correct installation of windows and doors in different types of construction.

Types of construction include:

  • Brick Veneer
  • Commercial Block work
  • Clad/Lightweight
  • Double Brick
