Timber compliance – look for the ‘S’ Mark
As building materials quite rightly face scrutiny with regards to compliance, the specifying of certified, quality products for construction is increasingly necessary.
Hyne Timber can confirm their Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) has been independently certified by Bureau Veritas, a JAS-ANZ accredited third-party Certification Body, under their ‘S’ Mark Product Certification Scheme.
The ‘S’ Mark is an Australasian stamp of assurance, confirming to the design and construction industry that Hyne Timber’s GLT is audited and certified to the applicable Standard ‘AS/NZS 1328.1:1998, Glue Laminated Structural Timber’.
In addition to more than 135 years of sawmilling experience, Hyne Timber has been specialising in the manufacture of GLT (Glulam) since 1972, successfully designing and fabricating a diverse range of engineered timber solutions.
Rob Mansell, Hyne Timber’s Business Development Manager – Commercial said the need to demonstrate compliance with Standards for regulatory purposes is made easier through third-party certification. “Our GLT customers need to demonstrate they are specifying conforming products. The ‘S’ Mark provides them with this proof.
“Our ‘S’ Mark certification follows scrutiny by accredited timber experts and we believe this approach is the future of product certification. Our timber is all sustainably sourced and selected to be engineered and designed to suit both structural and visual needs.
“Hyne Timber Engineered GLT, combined with our new CNC manufacturing capability is an incredibly versatile, high quality building material to suit simple through to highly creative, curved designs and structural needs.
“The ‘S’ Mark not only proves our products are compliant with Australian Standards but that we, as the certified manufacturer, continue to meet Standards certified by Bureau Veritas, accredited by JAS-ANZ, the Government appointed accreditation body for Australia and New Zealand,” Mr Mansell concluded.
The ‘S’ Mark Product Certification Scheme is a leading assurance of product and performance in Australasia, first established in 1944 and maintained by Bureau Veritas since 1997.
The Government owned and operated laboratory where Hyne Timber’s GLT underwent independent testing is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and was required to be further audited by Bureau Veritas to determine the ‘S’ Mark certification was achieved.
Laboratory testing the GLT product is only one part of the accreditation process which extends to the full manufacturing process and glue bond integrity.
Hyne Timber’s GLT is also Australian Forestry Standard (AFS)/Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified to Australian Standard AS 4707: 2014, ‘Chain of Custody for Forest Products’ to demonstrate the products are sustainably and responsibly sourced.
GLT is a suitable, sustainable alternative to steel for residential, commercial and industrial applications, making light work of long spans and critical loads. It has superior thermal, acoustic and corrosion-resistance values making it ideal for portal frame structures including halls and aquatic sporting facilities.
Hyne Timber also offers customer solutions and support such as coatings, treatments and connections.
