Hyne Community Trust on Track for June Grants
The 2020 Hyne Community Trust grants will be opening as usual on 1 June for Tumbarumba region applicants. It was established by Hyne Timber in Tumbarumba in 2007 with over $500,000 being contributed to date and provides lasting benefits to the community.
There were some concerns that the grants may be deferred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was overwhelmingly agreed that now more than ever, grants should be available for eligible initiatives.
“We are having to adjust the process and of course, hard copies of the guidelines and application forms won’t be available. Everything will be online,” Trust Chair Dale McLachlan says.
“The guidelines have been amended so if applicants are constrained to meet the application process due to COVID-19 related challenges, for example, the ability to provide two quotes, the Trust Committee remains agile to consider extensions on a case by case basis.
“Many local organisations are having to work differently if they are able to operate at all during this difficult time. However, we ask that consideration be given to how, if financially supported to do so, they could improve to provide more and lasting benefit to the community.”
Dale mentions that where improvements can be made, they will be taken in accordance with the current restrictions.
“If successful applications cannot proceed until restrictions are lifted, then grants can be pledged,” he says.
“This is a time for community organisations to virtually get together and start considering whether they have an eligible initiative to apply for in June.”
