Building Commission NSW launches Construct NSW course in Mandarin

The Building Commission NSW has launched its Construct NSW learning platform in Mandarin, to make the platform more accessible to the state’s increasingly multicultural construction sector. The Supervisor Responsibilities course is now available in English and Mandarin; further translations in other languages are to follow.

The launch acts as a significant milestone, with 11.2% of the construction industry made up of Mandarin speakers, the most common non-English language spoken in the trade.

NSW Building Commissioner James Sherrard emphasises the key significance of the launch.

“Our role is to help drive compliance and enhance safety within the NSW construction industry, and to do that, we need to ensure information that governs our industry is understood by all,” he says.

“By translating the Supervisor Responsibilities course for Mandarin speakers, we’re taking a step towards making our Construct NSW courses accessible to more workers.”

The course overs various aspects of supervision in construction, allowing learners to interpret legislation that govern supervision requirements in NSW. It also teaches participants how to monitor and assess workplace practices of supervised workers to ensure quality standards are maintained.

The course costs $140 and can be undertaken online at any time within six months of registration.
