Mapei launches Mapecube to reduce CO2 emissions in concrete industry
Mapei has officially launched Mapecube, an industry-first liquid admixture designed to increase strength and reduce CO2 emissions.
Cement manufacturing and production contributes up to 1.56 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO2) in 2023, accumulating approximately 8% of global carbon emissions and about 1% of Australia’s overall emissions profile.
Mapei has launched Mapecube to meet the industry demand for stronger, durable and low carbon concrete that simultaneously maintains construction schedules.
Designed, developed and manufactured in Wacol, Brisbane, the Mapecube 70 is a local formulation and the Mapecube 60 and 60W are part of the global product range.
Mapei general manager Australia Marco DeSantis says that the product is a “game changer” for the concrete industry, and a crucial step forward to meet sustainability goals locally and globally.
“This innovation is an important contribution to Australia’s cement and concrete industry’s quest for climate neutrality as we transition to net zero by 2050,” he says.
Mapei took upon several recommendations by its industry association Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia’s decarbonisation report when developing the Mapecube line.
Mapei’s Mapecube products are liquid admixtures that promote concrete strength development at all ages while allowing the use of increased supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). I can be integrated into concrete mixes, enhancing strength within 24 hours, mid-to-late strength in seven days, and full strength in 28 days.
