The newly tabled Design and Building Practitioners Bill 2019 has been widely supported by the HIA .

The Bill was tabled in NSW Parliament and seeks to ensure that relevant building and design practitioners have an obligation to ensure that their work meets relevant regulatory requirements such as the Building Code of Australia.

HIA executive director for NSW David Bare says: “It is a significant step in the right direction towards restoring consumer confidence in the apartment building market. Whilst most of the detail is yet to be developed through the supporting regulations, HIA remains confident and looks forward to working with the NSW Government to ensure the practical implementation of the measures proposed in the Bill minimises additional red-tape and costs for the industry and consumers.”
